National Day of Service Is Saturday, January 19

On the National Day of Service, volunteers all over the country will dedicate a few hours of their time to serving their communities—at food banks, health clinics, park clean-ups, and through thousands of other projects.  If you are looking for an opportunity to serve, here is the official site.  Pledge to serve the community here.

The annual event, normally held on the Martin Luther King. Jr. holiday (Monday, January 21), is an opportunity for people to honor the civil rights leader by volunteering for service projects in their community. There are projects planned in all 50 states, according to the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that promotes service efforts.  Dr. King once said, “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.”  Find a project near you today.

No matter how you get involved this weekend, I hope you take a few minutes to reflect on your commitment to service and what it means for our country and Texas.
