Complimentary Talent Management Webinar by TalentGuard on March 6

7 Ways to Encourage the Adoption of Effective Talent Management Practices

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CST

Manage your business, don’t let it manage you!

There comes a time when every organization needs a hero. Employees are without doubt a company's greatest asset, and any HR professional can tell you that investing in employees is investing in your company’s future. But hanging on to your most valueable players can be difficult, especially considering the average span of an individual at one company is 4.5 years (that number was a 23 years in the 1960s). This webinar will focus on the communication strategies necessary to build a company-wide talent management mindset that will allow you to attract and retain top employees.

To stay competitive, companies are enacting plans for monitoring their employees’ performance and progress, as well as aiding in their long-term personal and professional development. This approach not only creates happy employees but helps the bottom line. For example, research has shown that when goals are revisited quarterly there is a 30% jump in productivity as opposed to annual reporting. The use of high-impact talent practices can also lead to the generation of 2x the revenue per employee as compared to competitors.

The task of creating a “system of engagement” as opposed to a “system of record” is easier than ever with today’s data-rich cloud-based programs.

Register now -- We hope to see you then!

March 1st is Employee Recognition Day

Give a Shout Out to your hard-working employees!

Employee Recognition Trends 2013…

by TerryBerry

What's In? What's Out?

Here are the Top 5 Trends in Employee Recognition for 2013. Find out if your organization is leading the pack.

Out:Employee Recognition is Nice to Do
In:Employee Recognition is Critical to Business Success
Recognition in 2013 is elevated on many executives' hot list. Chief officers are jolted by figures that suggest at least 7 in 10 employees lack a sense of active engagement on the job. Leaders know that deeply engaged employees are the key to positive customer relationships and business growth. The idea of recognition as an office perk is an outdated one. Developing recognition initiatives that deeply engage more of the workforce has become an essential business strategy.

Out:Chasm Between Corporate Goals and Employee Appreciation
In: Close the Gap with Corporate Storytelling Through Recognition
Superficial Recognition is going the way of the dinosaur. Business leaders acknowledge that recognition misses the mark unless it connects the dots back to corporate goals and objectives. Leaders are finding ways to tie years-of-service recognition and other recognition into the attitudes, behaviors, and contributions that move the business toward its goals. Keeping a story-board of the many individual and collective achievements within a business over time is a powerful tool. Find out how Give a WOW and 360 Recognition can help your business build a "success storyboard."

Out:Top Down Recognition
In: Inclusive Recognition – Everyone participates
A pat on the back from the gal or guy in the corner office will always mean a lot. But now managers don't have to do it alone. Recognition in 2013 is everyone's job. Anyone from the intern to the CFO can notice someone doing great work. And with today's online platforms, it's easy to give a shout-out in the moment.

Out:Unaccountable Recognition
In:Rigorous Tracking and Reporting Insights
If 2012 was the year many businesses embraced "social-media style" recognition. 2013 is the year they will dig deeper to mine the gold in their recognition data. Today's platforms meet the growing demand for data that assists leaders in assess employee engagement, employee performance, business objectives and more.

Out:Show me the Money
In: Tangible Rewards with an Emotional Connection
A bonus check will never be refused, but for 2013 leaders are investing their employee rewards that yield a higher return. Cash is an expensive way to change behavior. Not only that, but tangible awards create an emotional connection to the achievement and the organization. A tangible award will give an employee something to remember weeks, months, or years down the road.

Personalysis Prizes on March 28 at Our Houston Networking Event

On March 28, at the Texas HR Pros' mixer at Sam's Place in Houston, attendees will get a chance to win an assessment compliments of Personalysis. Angela Stauder, a VP of Personalysis, has donated two assessments with consultation meetings.  The will enlighten you how to best work with and engage teams by better knowing your communication preferences and instinctual characteristics.

I recently had the honor of participating in one of Personalysis'  "train-the-trainer" programs with other Texas HR Pros, CEOs, authors, thought leaders, and professional coaches (CPCs)...and we all saw transformational results.  Wait until you see what you will discover about yourself on different levels!

The winners will love their session...because the report is all about you! The assessment includes a coaching session by Stauder, who is also a Texas HR Pros leader.  She will assist you in discovering how to use your strengths to your advantage and how to influence teams. The coaching session also can give you insight to manage your personal relationships as well.

Personalysis Report and Colorgraph | Personality Type Assessment | Personalyis, Houston, TX, USA

Personalysis is a proprietary personality assessment tool that provides you with insights into how people think, feel, deal with others, and cope under stress. Today’s corporate environment requires you to work closely with others to achieve organizational goals, yet the shortened time frames and greater geographical distances no longer allow you the luxury of “hit or miss” relationship building. This creates road blocks to productivity by making it difficult to understand and accommodate personality differences within the workplace.

You can take the guesswork out of understanding people and why they do what they do. The simple, 15-minute online questionnaire results in the Personalysis Report, a written personality interpretation, and the Personalysis Colorgraph, an easy-to-use graphical personality snapshot. The data—depicted as colors, shapes, and numbers—enables you to understand differences, grow, and manage others. The Colorgraph images displayed in your workplace serve as visual clues to help you and others stay on target.

By using our personality assessment tool, you can employ real-world solutions to overcome obstacles, accelerate teamwork, and create productive working relationships throughout your organization. By depicting behavior objectively and graphically, road blocks caused by style and personality differences are eliminated, and people are able to stay focused on achieving goals.

Join Personalysis on Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, YouTube or our Blog to receive valuable information on a variety of topics. Texas HR Pros thanks them for being a devoted sponsor!

HRCI Culture Webinars in February by DeGarmo Group

Putting Values to Work: Understanding Organizational Culture to Drive Success

Facilitator: Adam Bradshaw
February 07, 2013
1:00pm CT
While just about every organization has a mission statement that includes some reference to a set of work values, how many organizations really believe in their values and use them to drive organizational success? This session will highlight evidence that corporate work value alignment has been shown to increase job satisfaction and organizational commitment among employees, as well as decrease employee turnover.
We will discuss how to identify your organizational culture as one source for increasing the compatibility of your employees and organization and practical approaches for improving alignment through both talent acquisition and organizational development. We’ll talk about the importance of core work values, how to measure them, and how to improve alignment between the organization and its employees to drive organizational success!
This program has been pre-approved for 1.0 BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGY HRCI credits.

The Generational Divide: What to do with Gen Y, Gen X, and Baby Boomers

Facilitator: David Daly
Febrary 19 , 2013
1:00pm CT
We have all heard a variety of negative stereotypes about the newest generation. Things such as “Gen Y (AKA Millennials) is different from the rest of the workforce,” “It is hard to handle Gen Y,” or “Gen Y doesn’t want to work hard.”
In this session, we’ll define the age range of Gen Y, Gen X, and Baby Boomers and explore the research findings regarding generational differences. Then, based on these findings, we’ll discuss a variety of strategies for making people of each generation satisfied and engaged, as well as strategies to improve recruitment, selection, on-boarding, and retention for all generations.
This program has been pre-approved for 1.0 GENERAL HRCI credits.
