Program Description:
 
Bring your pick axes and sledge hammers and join in a conversation with four senior executives from major corporations about:
· What organizational barriers impede two-way communication between leaders and employees?
· What role do executives play in building or reinforcing those walls?
· What about employees?
· What can YOU do about it?
The Executives:
Linda Berger is the former CFO of North America Gas, Power and NGLs Trading for British Petroleum’s IST organization.Responsible for all Finance operations including a team of 230 employees in 25 offices, Linda believes strongly in teamwork supported by two-way communications.
Nate Ellis is a former senior executive with The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ. Working directly with the top executives of major oil & gas companies, he has a history of rapid, quality revenue increases and turnarounds. Nate attributes his success to the power of communication through networks.
Cynthia Sebald, is the former Vice President, Corporate Human Resources with El Paso Corporation. Having worked closely with the company CEO and executive management she understands the criticality of effective communications between executives and employees.
Curtis T. Smith, Sr., is the former senior executive responsible for Upstream Information Technology for Conoco Phillips. As such, he played a key role in how strategic information flowed throughout the organization. He believes the structure of information is as important as the information itself.
 
The Process:
1. John Eggert will very briefly present a worksheet to identify communication barriers.
2. Small groups of 4-5 persons will each meet with a senior executive who will describe his/her attempts to foster two-way communications within their organizations.
3. Members of each group will work with their team's executive to
  a.) Identify specific barriers to two-way communication within the executive's organization--including barriers erected by the employees themselves, and
  b.) Strategies for executives and employees in general to overcome such barriers.
4. The large group will reconvene to discuss the findings of each group.
Handout: A one-page job aid to identify communication barriers between leaders and their employees.
