Innovation Workshop by Career Training Network

All good ideas begin with what I call ‘messy ideas,’ ideas with ambiguous edges that are so entangled with other ideas you aren't even sure what you are looking at. In fact, the most important role of technology executives, professional technologists, and project managers is to tease out the clear ideas from the messy ones,” Dr. John Eggert explained at the Community Training Network (CTN) in the Galleria.

Yesterday, several training professionals, a CFO, ASTD board members, business consultants, and HR professionals, gathered to learn why innovative ideas unravel.  We agreed that each of us has witnessed the premature death of good ideas. Most businesses  experience the disappointment and frustration of trying to create positive change only to see well-intentioned efforts fail.

Eggert gave us some business examples from his previous 150+ interviews with leaders from large corps.  He also spiced up his presentation with some famous political scandals to teach us the power of  epic fails in nonverbal communication.

We learned that in order to roll out a good idea and sustain it, the company needs to—support it from the top, keep employees engaged, clearly define roles and responsibilities, and ensure that everyone is on the same page by effective communication and education. My favorite takeaway was the 5 Whys Technique.
Thanks to Career Partners International for hosting the event.
